Arno Bornkamp is a world-renowned German saxophonist who visited the University of Georgia in the spring of 2018 for a masterclass and guest recital.

His stay was unique in that it was a multi-component

The challenge with advertising his visit was managing and arranging all of the information to look cohesive and not overwhelming to the viewer.

During my time serving as the communications and media director for the University of Georgia Saxophone Studio, I learned the importance of sustaining engagement with audiences.

I used the holiday as an opportunity to engage with our followers; I posted an eye-catching graphic paired with the prompt: "We want to know how you're connected to the saxophone... do you play? Are you related to someone who plays? Did you used to play? Let us know in the comments below.

And if you're feeling festive, please share your favorite memory involving the saxophone. It can be something you participated in yourself, something you witnessed, or something completely different!"

We were able to chat with followers about ways that the saxophone had impacted their life and boosted engagement all while celebrating National Saxophone Day.

Every year the saxophone studio at the University of Georgia tries to align the fall studio concert around the birthday of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. Challenges with this project included brainstorming configurations of the elements as the social media platforms changed. As the Y axis becomes thinner, an alto saxophone becomes cumbersome in the design, so I switched it to a soprano saxophone. The effect still remains the same and the three pieces still look cohesive, but small adjustments had to be made to satisfy the destinations it was going.

Additionally (not pictured here), I learned about DPI in this project as I had to format the ad for a scrolling LCD screen in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. I suspect I'll use this skill minimally in the future, but I'm glad to have learned about it and am now able to adjust accordingly.

Joel Love is my favorite composer of new age saxophone works, and it was such a treat to have him visit the University of Georgia.

This ad required a lot of information: it was the world premiere of his new saxophone concerto "Solace" commissioned and performed by saxophonist Dr. Connie Frigo, accompanied by the Hodgson Wind Ensemble, and conducted by Dr. Cynthia Johnston-Turner and H. Robert Reynolds. And that's not even including the time and location of the performance!

All-in-all, it was a dream guest visit and a lovely event to promote.

Featured to the right is an example of a standard recital promotional bundle that I create for each student giving a recital within the saxophone studio. I start with a general design and optimize it for all social media platforms for maximum coverage in advertising.

I hosted a benefit concert to raise money for ALS in the summer of 2018. To the left is the ad that promoted the event to the local residents.

Below is a more extensive example of a recital advertising bundle. This series was for the biannual saxophone studio recital and was adjusted for all platforms, including a low DPI variation for a revolving slideshow in the lobbies of the school of music.
